met up with liang at 9am today to go Waseda Shibuya Senior High School today as they were organising a cultural event! like the 文化祭 that you will usually read about in mangas and watched on animes! The one which we attended was their Seiransai (星蘭祭). (:
arrived at the school at around 10 plus (it's at Clementi) and there were already a lot of people there!

we were greeted warmly and enthusiastically by the students there and the whole place was so filled with 'Genki' that we became excited ourselves too! well, i was, not too sure about ly though!

a whiteboard outside the staffroom to post up announcements and stuff! i was so amazed by this! it feels really traditional haha okay i don't know what im saying but i was really fascinated by this! O.O
Japanese are really good with art and handicrafts. they really went all out to beautifying the school with their decorations and drawings. oh and this year's theme is 'Our Spirit - Connecting to the World' which was inspired by the Japan Earthquake this year.

the picture on the right was the first booth we went into. look at their banners and decorations!! so pretty and so got 心思! i don't think Singaporeans would have bothered to put in this much effort. in fact, i think our stall banners for the Hai Carnival were super anyhow luh! but speaking of which, me and liang were really reminded of Hai Carnival the whole time we were there. they really should have continued the Hai Carnival thing, like every 2 years or something. well, i wasn't in school during Hai Carnival as i had NDP training but the preparation work that had to be done prior to the carnival was enjoyable nonetheless. good memories! the picture next to it is a mock whacko! you know the kind of machine where you use a toy hammer to hit whatever creature that pops up? except the creatures that popped up are hand puppets! the people behind must have been really tired with the 'punching'!
the picture below the water balloons was this shooting game. the gun that was given to us was made of chopsticks and it is able to shoot a rubber band at the targets! if our primary school kids ever find out about this you can bet that there will be chaos in schools.
and lastly, what's-in-the-box game, something that i'm never good at. i was too slow at guessing this so i didn't get a point of this. ):
took a break at Wac Cafe later which sells cakes-and-drink sets (really like manga!! like in Cardcaptor Sakura haha!).

continued our exploration on and decided to try out this booth called Naoi Jones which is a treasure hunt game.

we had to find the bag that matches the weight of the one that we were presented with. then we had to find the plastic bottle with the correct picture among the many bottles lying around in boxes and crushed newspapers hahaha! and at the end, we had to figure out the answer to this riddle:
What must be broken before it can be used?

got a ticket to watch this movie production by a class of students but we still have 1 more hour before the showtime. liang wanted to try out this 'pirates' ship' booth at the basketball court so we headed there to try our luck but unfortunately the queue was super long! (see the string of people who were standing by the railings??)

didn't get to play 'pirates' ship' even though we were almost at the end of the queue. but the movie was going to start so we headed back to the classroom block.

and yes, this is probably the highlight for liangying - haunted house. it's really my first time entering one so i freaked out at liang's suggestion. and i was like procrastinating about it the whole time, saying we should start with the mild games first. i never got away with it though since the queue was rather short to begin with. i was super nervous! like really nervous! i had to remind myself again and again whatever's inside are just gonna be real human beings and silly props and that i'll just scream whenever i'm scared and treat this whole thing as a stress reliever.
have to admit the concept they had was rather cool. there were 2 segments - hansel and gretel and japanese ghosts in forest. and for the hansel and gretel part, we had to pass this purple sweet thing to the witch. =S

there was still some time to the end of the Seiransai so we spent the remaining time writing messages for the victims of the Earthquake. it's a local project to make a compilation of all the cards i think. this was the message that i wrote and at the back of it i drew this picture! (shown on the right). SUPER PRIMARY SCHOOL RIGHT HAHAHA! (even my handwriting looks primary school! the marker's fault!) but i wanted to draw something positive. like when you look at it, you'll think of HAPPINESS! yeah! erm, if you don't feel happiness by looking at my picture maybe that's cos you don't know how to appreciate art? :P

as an after thought, i think Japanese are really very considerate and hospitable because when we were queuing up for the games, the students will fan us so that we won't feel so hot. but seriously they were perspiring a lot more than us! a bit weird to let them do that but we weren't sure how to reject them. and they were full of genki aka enthusiasm, shouting loudly to promote their booths even though there won't be any money earned from the booths (ie the games are free for all to play) except maybe for a few like the Wac Cafe and charity auction. it's more like they are going all out to promote their culture to the visitors. i think in most cases Singaporean students are not as 卖力 as them when it comes to this kind of thing. or maybe it's just a difference in our culture and level of maturity luh.
